During the Speak Out, students and teachers are invited to express themselves in front of an audience. Because gender unity is the focus on Thursday, it will be the main issue.
Students and teachers were given the opportunity to sign up for performances in their English classes. Those who have signed up are given priority during the event. Once all scheduled performances are over, it becomes an open microphone performance where anyone is welcome to express their thoughts.
“The purpose is to have a safe, comfortable place to voice our ideas, our thoughts, and to demonstrate our talents to fight against social injustice,” said Justin Figueroa, junior and president of One World. “That’s what the Week of Consciousness is all about.”
There will be food being sold during the Speak Out. All profits from the food sold will go to a charity chosen by One World.
“The profit from the food helps contribute to Human Rights Watch, a charity that supports unity and equality,” Figueroa said.
