Zhou Yaoting, bard chairman of HOdo Group

Deputy to the 9th and 10th National People's Congress

Chairman of the China Taxus Chinensis Conservation Committee

Vice chairman of China Township Entrepreneurs Association

Chairman of China Township Entrepreneurs Committee

Zhou Yaoting, a native of Donggang Town, Wuxi, Jiangsu born in March 1943, now serves as the board chairman of HOdo Group and was the deputy to the 9th and 10th National People's Congress.

With his extraordinary sagacity, Zhou Yaoting has turned a small rural factory on the verge of bankruptcy into a key enterprise group of Jiangsu Province and one of the 120 pilot enterprises for deepening reform as designated by the State Council. In early 2001, “HOdo Stock” was listed in Shanghai Stock Exchange, marking HOdo has shifted from assets operation to capital operation. Presently HOdo has successfully expanded its sphere of business into textile and garment, rubber tire, bio-pharmaceuticals and industrial park development, etc.

Since 1991, Zhou has been successively awarded more than 20 distinctions of city and provincial level and above. At the end of 1995, he was recommended by the national top ten news units as the only “newsmaker of China’s new countryside in 1995”. In January 1997, he was awarded the Chinese Redbud Cup achievement award for outstanding Chinese entrepreneur. In January 2002, he was rated as the national excellent entrepreneur. In June 2006, he was rated as famous Chinese enterprise planner. In 2006, he was elected chairman of China Township Entrepreneurs Association and chairman of the China Taxus Chinensis Conservation Committee; in 2012, he was re-elected such titles.

Zhou Yaoting is both an entrepreneur and the people’s deputy. He cares about and pays attention to the civilian’s sufferings and social development all the time. Attaching great importance to environmental protection, he often reminds HOdo’s leadership that China needs rapid economic development, but it will by no means follow the example of some western countries which have come to

govern the environment when it has been ruined, as it was too late. So we must be fully aware of environmental protection before the environment is being damaged. Zhou favors the government decision of governing the Taihu Lake and took the lead in sewage treatment to avoid environmental pollution by his enterprise. Moreover, he has offered suggestions on the governance of the surrounding environment.

Since serving as deputy to the National People's Congress, Zhou has been making the time to find out the public opinions. He once said, “Because I am the people’s deputy, I shall serve the people wholeheartedly.” Every year he will carefully collect materials reflecting the public opinions and submit them as proposals to the government during the NPC and CPPCC, or include them in his articles as a way of bringing about public opinions and supervisions. In recent years, his opinions concerning the construction of small towns, the way to increase rural income, suggestions on modification of the Guaranty Law, trademark protection, etc. have been highly stressed by the State, and Zhou has made his own contribution to the healthy development of the society. At the end of 2002, Zhou was re-elected deputy to the National People's Congress, making it one of the few deputies in Wuxi that have served consecutive terms. This speaks volume for the general approval of Zhou Yaoting as the people’s deputy.
